Hope in Hawaii

I am going to go back and fill in the huge blank between when we got our match and when we got to Hawaii, but for this post I am going to share an observation I had this morning.

This move has been really hard on me. It's hard to be so far from my family and to miss our family reunion camp trip in July, it broke me to have to leave best friends that still need me in Texas, and Ryan has had to work everyday so far. I am sad, lonely, and stressed.

I went for a run this morning. I have been up at 5am very morning here in Hawaii (my body is having a hard time adjusting to the time change). While I was running down Waikiki dodging other walkers and nodding to fellow runners, I tried to enjoy the moment and take in my surroundings. I have been looking at Hawaii with a bit of resentment and getting more bitter with each day. When I reached the end of the street I sat down on a knoll over looking the ocean. All the surfers were out in the water and the beach was pretty empty. I laid back on the soft springy grass and looked up into the palm trees as they swayed in the ocean breeze. Maybe it was the mid-workout euphoria, but I had a moment. People desire to live here and this is why. The city is ugly but the island is beautiful.

It will take me some time, but I think I can be happy here. I am trying my best to be positive.

  1. Stay positive! Finding a place to live is the hardest and most stressful part. Once you have some assemblance of a home around you, things will start to feel better. Keeping you in my thoughts!!

  2. One day you will! I remember having the same feelings when I moved there! And I was a teenager at the time! :) that first year was rough but then something changed and now it is "home" to me! I miss it so much! Especially the people and the easy going attitude and the food! ;)

  3. That is the way of life.Changes make us look at all the things we had and miss so much. The funny thing about our minds is
that it is so easy to look back but not so easy to look at the 'right now.' How sad that is because the promise we have is the 'right now' and nothing forward. Looking back is history and the right now will be history shortly. If you don't make the effort to enjoy now you may not get a chance later. NOW is really, really wonderful.

Things here as going on. The boys are great. Had them last night. Gavin came out of my room with my bra on and told Papa Randy he was Mimi. He is a mess.

    Love to you and yours
